Together

Recently someone commented that “I must have it all together,” and it really made me stop and think.  Do I ‘have it all together?’  What does ‘all together’ look like?  It’s obviously much like “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  Having it all together could be completely subjective based on ones opinion.   I often think that it is in my own ability to fall and get back up that allows me to relate to other parents on this journey of leading our children into adulthood… A journey in which the ending eludes us until they turn 25!   Our kids don’t look at us at the age of 5, 10 or 15 and say, “great job mom, you’ve got it all together, we are turning out great if we do say so ourselves.  You are right on target for giving society three well adjusted, confident, and successful children who will take great care of you in your old age.”  So just like success and beauty we have to decide for ourselves what that looks like.  Today ‘having it all together’ looked like my son loosing his swim suit, me not handling the lost bathing suit well, a pre cooked chicken from the local grocer, half a load of laundry done, and three beautiful kids kissed, cuddled and tucked in.  Not bad if I do say so myself.  Not bad at all!

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I’ve ended up where I needed to be.
